Team BRIT has finished the year on a high, achieving its best ever result at a race in Portugal at the weekend.
Members of the team travelled to the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve race circuit in Portimao, for two 4-hour Fun Cup races.
Long-term team members Warren McKinlay and Jimmy Hill were joined by rookies Jamie Falvey, Ash Hall and James Russell.
Warren and Jamie drove in the first race of the event in car 312, finishing in a fantastic 8th place – the team’s first ever top 10 result. James, Ash and Jimmy then took to the track for race number 2, which extended into the night. Running in 12th position with just 6 minutess to go, an incident dropped them down a few places finishing in 15th position.
The race completes an amazing year for the team, which announced its title sponsor, Brit Insurance, back in February; enabling it to race two cars in the Fun Cup championship this year.
The team aims to become the first ever all-disabled team to race in Le Mans and will be looking to step up to GT4 racing next year.
Team founder Dave Player said, “This was a fantastic way for us to complete our year’s racing. The Portimao race gave our drivers, including three of our rookies, an incredible experience, competing against drivers from the UK and Europe, on a very impressive track. To end with our best ever finish positions was the perfect result.
“We’ve come such a long way this year, opening our doors to civillian disabled drivers in addition to military veterans for the first time, and attracting on a number of new sponsors who have helped us to remain competitive on the track.
“We have reached millions of people with our story this year. We are doing something no other team has done before and attempting to pave the way for disabled drivers to access competitive motorsport. We are hugely excited by what 2018 will bring.”
