Clevedon lighting specialists back Team BRIT driver

Prolectric, a specialist manufacturer and expert provider of solar lighting and wind power technologies, is backing a man from Nailsea near Bristol, who is part of motorsport’s most inspirational team.

35-year-old James Russell is a rookie driver with Team BRIT – a motor racing team looking to make history by becoming the first ever all-disabled team to race in Le Mans.

Prolectric, which is based in Clevedon, has become a personal sponsor for James and will provide him with essential support to help him meet the costs of training and racing with the team all over the country and overseas.

The company was the first to introduce permanent solar-only street lights to the UK market and is now the market leader.

The team competed in the UK Fun Cup Championship last year. James joined in September and raced with the team at Oulton Park in October.  James and the team will compete in the championship once again from this April and will be entering GT racing with their new Aston Martin soon.

James was born with a congenital defect to his right lower leg and now wears a prosthetic leg. Team BRIT has developed the world’s most advanced hand control technology to allow its drivers to compete on equal terms with able-bodied competitors.

James said, “I’m extremely grateful to Prolectric for backing me as I work towards my dream of competing in Le Mans with Team BRIT.

“As a team, we’re looking to change the motorsport industry by improving access for disabled drivers and we hope that with our ‘believe and achieve’ ethos, we’re inspiring lots of people out there to try what they never thought possible.  With the support of sponsors such as Prolectric we are moving towards our goal and sharing our story across the UK and globally.”

Chris Williams from Prolectric said: "The story around James and the other drivers involved with Team Brit is such an inspirational one and one that we are delighted to be supporting. We wish both James and the team the best of luck this season and with their ultimate goal of racing at LeMans in 2020."
