Drivers and staff from Team BRIT have benefited from a day of media training thanks to their title sponsor, Brit Insurance.
On Friday 19th January, current drivers, as well as a number of new rookies set to try out for the team, travelled to the Leadenhall Building in Central London for a day centred around the team’s communications and PR goals for the year ahead.
The session was opened by Brit Insurance Chief Executive Matthew Wilson and featured updates from the management team. Driver coach, Graham Horgan gave an overview of the racing plans for the year, including some big news which will be publically revealed soon. Commercial Manager Mike Scudamore gave an overview on team sponsorship and PR Manager Lucy Sheehan talked through PR plans for the year, whilst looking back on the huge success of 2017.
The team then heard from team sponsors Kantar Media on the value of media reach, and from PR consultancy experts, FTI Consulting, on social media best practice and media interviewing skills.
The team is continually in the public spotlight due to the huge interest in the story of the drivers, their technology, and their Le Mans goal, and they are looking to inspire and motivate other disabled people through sharing their story.
PR Manager Lucy Sheehan said, “It’s really important for us to get our story out to as many people as possible. We want to show the world what is possible for disabled people and to break down barriers stopping others getting involved in motorsport or other sports.
“Our drivers are interviewed regularly, and we have a huge year ahead of us, so hearing advice from media experts was really useful in helping them understand how they can get their stories across even more clearly. This is just one area of business expertise that the drivers benefit from when becoming part of the team. We’re extremely grateful to our sponsors Brit Insurance for hosting the day and we look forward to seeing our team put these skills to best practice throughout the year.”
