Team BRIT has kicked off 2020 at the UK’s most iconic race circuit, with an Academy Day and track session at Silverstone.
On Saturday 25th January, the team held its first Academy session of the year, welcoming a number of clients to the UK’s best known racing venue, to experience their first taste of life on the track. Clients were given coaching on Team BRIT’s top of the range Vesaro simulator, fitted with its world-leading hand controls, before taking to the track in the Academy VW Polo as a passenger, then as a driver.
Alongside the Academy clients, eTeam BRIT driver Ben Warren, who lives with a rare genetic condition and has never been able to even sit in a race car before, was welcomed along for more work towards taking him from a sim racer to a real racer.
The team has been working with Ben to create a bespoke seat insert that will allow him to use the simulator and cars – something he hasn’t been able to do before because of the shape of his body. Ben didn’t manage to drive on track this time as more refinements are needed to the seat to ensure his safety, but he received coaching on the sim and was taken around the circuit as a passenger.
Team BRIT videographer Darren Cook of Scruffy Bear Pictures and photographer Dave Archer of Kingsize Photography also came along to capture footage and images for the team’s promotional work, and rookies and drivers received some coaching and track time.
Team BRIT principal Dave Player said, “It was great to get back on track after the holiday period. As a team, we’re based all over the country so coming together on these occasions is a great way to build the excitement and anticipation for the coming year.
“Our Academy clients have already provided us with some fantastic feedback on the session so we hope to welcome them to another day soon. It was also great to work further with Ben, who I know we will get out on track to fulfil his dream very soon.
“2020 is set to be a brilliant year, with new rookies ready to make a mark in the Britcar Trophy and Bobby and Aaron ready and waiting to test the competition in the main Britcar Endurance series. We can’t wait to get going.”
